Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the branch of medicine and biology that studies drugs and their effects on living organisms. It explores how drugs interact with the body (pharmacodynamics) and how the body processes drugs (pharmacokinetics). Pharmacology also covers drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. It helps in understanding therapeutic uses, side effects, and potential toxicity of medications. Clinical pharmacology applies this knowledge to patient care, ensuring safe and effective drug therapy. This field is essential for developing new drugs and optimizing existing treatments.
